Party season is here and for us it means --baking time! We always find a reason to mess up our kitchen and giving out baked goodies to close friends is really something that we enjoy.
Having teens with an active sociable life can be really expensive this Halloween - -from the costumes, to the gadgets ..the list can go on and the price tag can go sky rocket high. Tonight they are attending a costume party and we made 2 cakes that costs us less than $12 to make!
Inspired by our cat who always hang out on the windowsill, the girls decorated the cake with our spoiled cat in mind. I wanted to create a double layer version, but the thought of cake containers being left behind at a random place prevented me from doing so. Instead, I used a standard disposable aluminum pan and we just worked around it.
Girls are already gone and we just had a sumptuous dinner from one of my Batali recipe - T-BONE FIORENTINA WITH SAUTEED SPINACH: Bistecca alla Fiorentina. I was enjoying my after dinner coffee when these cute kids came by at our door...Trick or Treat everyone!
HERE'S HOW:
Make a basic FRENCH VANILLA CAKE . Let it cool
Create CREAM CHEESE ICING by beating

Spread cream cheese icing evenly on top of cooled cake
Sprinkle with cake candy bits
Create an outline of picture by using a prepared icing in a tube ($ 2.49 at Kroger). Fill the space with more cake decor as appropriate
Complete the picture by adding variety of colors and shapes
Okay...where are the other Treat or Trick kids...Cat is waiting at the door......(he loves the sound of the doorbell)
